What are the precautions for draining water from the water tank of a diesel generator set?

The water tank of the diesel generator set is an important heat dissipation device of the unit. It plays a good heat dissipation role and can try to avoid equipment failure caused by excessive temperature. Generally, after the operation of the diesel generator set, water tank drainage is one of the shutdown preparations that the generator set needs to make. So, what are the precautions for draining water from the water tank of diesel generator sets? Hechai Power summarizes the following key points for you:

1. When the external ambient temperature is too low, the cooling water should be drained 15 minutes after the machine is shut down. Do it when the water temperature has dropped, but not immediately after shutting down the machine. Otherwise, the temperature difference between the fuselage and the external environment will be too large, which will cause deformation of some parts of the diesel generator set, thus affecting the performance of the diesel engine.

2. When the unit is discharging water, it is necessary to pay attention to the specific conditions of the water flow in the surrounding area. Check whether the water flow is smooth and whether the water flow becomes smaller or faster and slower. If the above situation occurs, it means that the cooling water contains impurities, which hinders the normal flow of water. This allows the water drain switch to be removed and the cooling water to flow directly out of the body.

3. When the cooling water stops flowing out, shake the diesel generator set a few more times to drain out the remaining cooling water that is not easy to flow out.

4. Open the water tank cover when discharging water. If the water tank cover is not opened, only a part of the cooling water will flow out. However, as the amount of water in the radiator decreases, a certain degree of vacuum will be generated due to the closed water tank, which will slow down or stop the water flow.

5. When the diesel generator set is at high temperature, it is not advisable to drain the water immediately. Before the engine of the unit is turned off, if the engine temperature is very high, the load should be removed first and allowed to run at idle speed, and then the water should be drained when the water temperature drops to 40-50°C.

The water tank of the diesel generator set plays a very important role in the entire generator set. If the water tank is used improperly, it will cause damage to the generator, and in serious cases, it will cause the generator to be scrapped. Therefore, understanding and being familiar with the correct method of draining water is a knowledge point that every operator must master.
